The new BMW X3 G45, unveiled in June 2024, represents the fourth generation of the popular Bavarian manufacturer’s SUV. This model stands out with its increased size, reduced weight, and a controversial design that evokes mixed feelings among brand enthusiasts. Once competing primarily in the sports sedan segment, the BMW X3 has become one of the best-selling models, dominating the SUV market.
The BMW X3 G45 is longer (by 34 mm), wider (by 29 mm), and lower (by 25 mm) compared to its predecessor. Despite this, it visually appears taller and less compact due to the vertical design elements and large, flat surfaces lacking stylistic details. The slightly increased wheelbase of just 1 mm makes the vehicle look "puffed up," which may not appeal to everyone.
One of the most debated elements of the new X3 is the stamping around the air curtains on the front bumper, which does not harmonize with the rest of the body. However, a positive aspect is the introduction of illuminated kidney grilles, although their new arrangement of vertical and diagonal slats has not won universal approval.
One of the key features of the new BMW X3 G45 is the M Performance front splitter, available for the first time on this model. Designed to highlight the aggressive lines of the front bumper, it adds a more dynamic appearance to the vehicle. M Performance versions also feature exclusive additions such as matte black Frozen M Performance side decals, M Carbon exterior mirrors, and an aramid antenna cover. These elements not only give the car a unique character but also improve its aerodynamics.
The BMW X3 G45 features advanced materials such as carbon fiber (CFRP) and aramid used in the production of exterior parts in M Performance versions. These innovative materials emphasize the vehicle’s sporty look and optimize its aerodynamic properties, which are crucial for performance and fuel efficiency.
The interior of the new BMW X3 also sparks controversy. While the frames around the central console look elegant, the absence of physical buttons may not be to everyone's liking. New are the triangular inserts in the door interiors, which, due to their bright backlighting, may resemble a gaming keyboard more than a premium car. On the positive side, the quality of the interior workmanship is expected to remain high.
Under the hood of the BMW X3 G45, you will find proven engines B47, B48, and B58. These versions are offered exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The petrol version X3 20 xDrive, equipped with a 2.0-liter engine producing 190 hp, is available both as a mild hybrid and a plug-in hybrid (30e) with a total power of 299 hp. The top M50 xDrive version with a six-cylinder B58 engine delivers 381 hp and reaches 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.
The BMW X3 G45 is lighter and stiffer than its predecessor, and all versions come with a more sporty M Sport suspension. Additionally, optional adaptive dampers may appeal to drivers seeking better cornering performance. The range also includes large 21-inch wheels and red brake calipers, emphasizing the vehicle’s sporty character.
The new BMW X3 G45 marks another step in the Bavarian manufacturer’s SUV development, though its styling may not appeal to everyone. Despite mixed opinions, this model is sure to achieve market success thanks to its wide range of engines and rich equipment. Prices for the new BMW X3 start at 250,000 PLN (58k euro), with the top M50 xDrive version costing 365,000 PLN (85k EUR).
